A Three Year Old’s Prayer

Originally written: April 29, 2006

Teaching my three year old how to pray at mealtime, I requested one evening she repeat after me.

Mommy:  “Dear Jesus…”

Her three-year-old response:  “Dear Jesus…”

Mommy:  “Bless our food…”

Her three-year-old response:  “Thank you for our food…”

Mommy:  “Make us strong and good…”

Her three-year-old response:  “Keep us strong and good…”

Mommy:  “We love you…”

Her three-year-old response:  “I love you…”

Mommy:  “Amen.”

Her three-year-old response:  “Amen.”

Later on, she started adding: “please bring Daddy home safe from work” and “thank you for sending angels to keep him safe.”  She believed in God’s provision before she even knew the outcome.  Oh, to be like a child!
