Everything For Good

God gave me a new insight into Romans 8:26-30 this morning, letting me see how God can take all the pieces of what feels like a decimated life and create it into something even more beautiful than before the broken pieces outnumbered and defined my existence. The verses read:

“And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them. For God knew His people in advance, and He chose them to become like His Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And having chosen them, He called them to come to Him. And having called them, He gave them right standing with Himself. And having given them right standing, He gave them His glory.” Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭26‬-‭30‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Did you hear that? Long ago, God called you to be His. And he made provisions for all the broken pieces we would encounter while living in a sinful world. The Bible says, the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. (Emphasis mine.) What does that mean? Well, let’s break it down. We know God is love (1 John 4:8), and we know He is faithful, meaning He cannot go against Who He is. (2 Timothy 2:13) So, when our lives shatter and lay in shambles at our feet, we can know there’s truth in the Holy Spirit praying for us “with groanings that cannot be expressed in words,” so we can be reconnected with the purpose God has for our lives. You know that part about, “God causes everything to work together for the good”? It’s not a cliche. He literally takes and remakes everything we hand over to Him into something that will reflect His true image of love.

“…perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced His perfect love.” 1 John‬ ‭4‬:‭18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

If you are feeling too broken for your life to be worth anything at this point, take a look at how God views your situation. “But the jar [the potter] was making did not turn out as he had hoped, so he crushed it into a lump of clay again and started over. Then the Lord gave me this message: ‘O Israel, can I not do to you as this potter has done to his clay? As the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand.’” Jeremiah‬ ‭18‬:‭4‬-‭6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

So, I encourage you today: trust God with all your broken pieces. You can rest assured He’s not finished making you into His masterpiece, and He will continue to do so until the day of His return. “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.” Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭10‬ ‭NLT‬‬ “And I am certain that God, Who began the good work within you, will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” Philippians‬ ‭1‬:‭6‬ ‭NLT‬‬
