Altering the Course
Genesis 41 & 42
At 17 years old, Joseph’s brothers altered the trajectory of his life. Joseph spends 13 years imprisoned, a slave, probably wondering how God could make greatness out of his situation. Then, at 30 years old (Genesis 41:46), Potiphar calls for Joseph, and within a matter of a few hours Joseph finds himself not only freed from prison, but appointed second in command over all of Egypt. Amazing! Humans will never succeed at telling God what He can and cannot do.
During the following seven years of plenty in Egypt, Joseph gets married, is blessed with two male offspring, and provides his sons with names that reflect Joseph’s heart: Manasseh, “God has made me forget all my troubles”; and Ephraim, “God has made me fruitful in this land of my grief.” (Genesis 41:51-52 NLT) Healing made possible due to God’s redeeming love!
