The Struggle is Real

Genesis 32-34

I had to chuckle to myself when I thought of Jacob wrestling with God. It kind of puts a whole new visual on the expression “the struggle is real.” DesiringGod.org refers to Jacob’s wrestling as “tenacious faith.” I looked up synonyms for tenacious. I found: clinging, retentive, unshakable, immovable. But my favorites had to be: sticky, adhesive. Isn’t that the kind of faith we all hope to have—the sticky adhesive type that won’t let go of God when life gets hard? Even if we limp along after the struggle like Jacob did, holding onto God and receiving God’s blessing will always be worth the tenacious faith it took for us to survive.
