Yaweh-Yireh: The Lord Will Provide

Genesis 22-24
Quiet strength and trust. That’s what Abraham’s response most likely provided along those dusty roads up Mount Moriah. “‘God will provide a sheep for the burnt offering, my son,’ Abraham answered. And they both walked on together.” Genesis 22:8
Can you feel the sweat forming on Isaac’s palms? Can you hear the hint of angst in his voice while listening to his father? What must have been going through his mind?
Am I the only one who’s heard this story, believing Isaac had to be in his teens? Well, that’s not the case. I learned today this sacrificial test took place in Issac’s late 30s. That’s a significant amount of time to observe his father’s faith manifest before his eyes. Even if anxiety hovered in his presence, Isaac knew he could trust his father, because his father had a solid relationship with God.
“And Abraham picked up the knife to kill his son as a sacrifice. At that moment the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, ‘Abraham! Abraham!’
‘Yes,’ Abraham replied. ‘Here I am!’
‘Don’t lay a hand on the boy!’ the angel said. ‘Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son.’” Genesis 22:10-12 NLT
