Speak, Lord

1 Samuel 1-3

“‘Why are you crying, Hannah?’ Elkanah would ask. ‘Why aren’t you eating? Why be downhearted just because you have no children? You have me—isn’t that better than having ten sons?’” 1 Samuel‬ ‭1‬:‭8‬ ‭NLT‬‬ This may be a strange thing to stand out, but I had to laugh at the male ego in this verse and how it hasn’t changed in all these years between then and now. How could he not understand the shame because of what child bearing meant at that time?

I love this verse, knowing God sees and safeguards those who are faithful to Him. All we must do is lean into His power: “He will protect His faithful ones, but the wicked will disappear in darkness. No one will succeed by strength alone.” 1 Samuel‬ ‭2‬:‭9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

This verse has stuck with me since childhood. “…if someone calls again, say, ‘Speak, Lord, your servant is listening.’ ….” 1 Samuel‬ ‭3‬:‭9‬ ‭NLT‬‬ When we hear God calling, it is our responsibility to listen then act.
