Incurable Disease and Peace with a Cost

2 Chronicles 21-24

“After all this, the Lord struck Jehoram with an incurable intestinal disease. The disease grew worse and worse, and at the end of two years it caused his bowels to come out, and he died in agony. His people did not build a great funeral fire to honor him as they had done for his ancestors.” 2 Chronicles‬ ‭21‬:‭18‬-‭19‬ ‭NLT‬‬ This is such a sad story, but can you imagine that kind of agony? Makes me wonder how God chooses what type of painful or humiliating deaths people are going to endure for turning from him and doing evil. And to then read in verse 20, “…No one was sorry when he died….” A legacy no one wants to leave.

“So all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was peaceful because Athaliah had been killed.” 2 Chronicles‬ ‭23‬:‭21‬ ‭NLT‬ To think that people had no peace while Athaliah was alive. What a horrible legacy to leave! God had to allow her to die in order for those around her not to suffer. Such sadness in what was also a great blessing!
