Lamenting Great Loss

Lamentations 1 & 2
“Her oppressors have become her masters, and her enemies prosper, for the Lord has punished Jerusalem for her many sins. Her children have been captured and taken away to distant lands.” Lamentations 1:5 NLT There was a time in my life when I could relate to these verses—oppressed, enemies prospering, children taken away. “She defiled herself with immorality and gave no thought to her future. Now she lies in the gutter with no one to lift her out. ‘Lord, see my misery,’ she cries. ‘The enemy has triumphed.’” Lamentations 1:9 NLT It’s hard not to lament when things don’t go our way and we see no way out. “I have cried until the tears no longer come; my heart is broken. My spirit is poured out in agony….” Lamentations 2:11 NLT If you’ve lived long enough, I know you’ve experienced this, too—one way or another.
