Something You Wouldn’t Believe

Habakkuk 1-3 and Zephaniah 1-3

Habakkuk‬ ‭1‬:‭3‬-‭4‬ ‭NLT reads as if someone wrote it today: “Must I forever see these evil deeds? Why must I watch all this misery? Wherever I look, I see destruction and violence. I am surrounded by people who love to argue and fight. The law has become paralyzed, and there is no justice in the courts. The wicked far outnumber the righteous, so that justice has become perverted.”‬‬

I love God’s reply: “The Lord replied, ‘Look around at the nations; look and be amazed! For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldn’t believe even if someone told you about it.’” Habakkuk‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬ ‭NLT‬

“I have heard all about you, Lord. I am filled with awe by Your amazing works. In this time of our deep need, help us again as You did in years gone by. And in Your anger, remember Your mercy.” Habakkuk‬ ‭3‬:‭2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“But the Lord is still there in the city, and He does no wrong. Day by day He hands down justice, and He does not fail. But the wicked know no shame.” Zephaniah‬ ‭3‬:‭5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“I thought, ‘Surely they will have reverence for Me now! Surely they will listen to My warnings. Then I won’t need to strike again, destroying their homes.’ But no, they get up early to continue their evil deeds.” Zephaniah‬ ‭3‬:‭7‬ ‭NLT‬‬ It stood out to me that people aren’t just going about doing wrong, but they’re getting up early to do it. It’s like it’s their mission to bring destruction on themselves and those around them. So sad! More sad? It seems nothing has changed.

What an awesome thought: “The remnant of Israel will do no wrong; they will never tell lies or deceive one another. They will eat and sleep in safety, and no one will make them afraid. For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With His love, He will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” Zephaniah‬ ‭3‬:‭13, 17‬ ‭NLT‬‬
