God Hates Divorce

Malachi 1-4

“You cry out, ‘Why doesn’t the Lord accept my worship?’ I’ll tell you why! Because the Lord witnessed the vows you and your wife made when you were young. But you have been unfaithful to her, though she remained your faithful partner, the wife of your marriage vows. ‘For I hate divorce!’ says the Lord, the God of Israel. ‘To divorce your wife is to overwhelm her with cruelty,’ says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. ‘So guard your heart; do not be unfaithful to your wife.’” Malachi‬ ‭2‬:‭14‬, ‭16‬ ‭NLT‬‬ As much as God hates divorce, He also hates neglect and abuse, and He supports a person protecting themselves from a toxic relationship by leaving an atmosphere that isn’t physically, mentally, or spiritually safe. “I am the Lord, and I do not change. That is why you descendants of Jacob are not already destroyed.” Malachi‬ ‭3‬:‭6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The reason tithe and faithfulness come first: “‘Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in My Temple. If you do,’ says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, ‘I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it!
