The Lost Sheep
Luke 14-16
“…There is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!” Luke 15:7 NLT For years, I’ve struggled with this text, mainly because I’ve been looking at it from a broken, human perspective.
Sin makes us self-centered and self-focused, meaning we want God to be proud of us and rejoice over us. We want to be the reason He’s happy. We want to be the one that’s being celebrated. However, I’ve looked at this text through the lens of, “I’ve worked hard to stay close to Christ my whole life. He’s not rejoicing over me, because I’m part of the 99.” When, in reality, I’m part of this fallen human race that needs rescuing. I’m that lost sheep. He’s been out there looking for me!
