Non-refutable Wisdom

Luke 21 & 22

“So don’t worry in advance about how to answer the charges against you, for I will give you the right words and such wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to reply or refute you!” Luke‬ ‭21‬:‭14‬-‭15‬ ‭NLT‬‬ I’ve never been good at words when it comes to talking. Talking uses a different part of the brain compared to writing. I find great comfort knowing God will give me EXACTLY what I need at the right time and not a moment sooner. So there’s no need to worry!

“He prayed more fervently, and He was in such agony of spirit that His sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood.” Luke‬ ‭22‬:‭44‬ ‭NLT‬‬ We talk about Jesus sweating drops of blood, but have we ever stopped to think what this meant scientifically? This is the first time in 49 years I’ve read this part of the story and contemplated the magnitude of these words. I’ve also read the crucifixion on average would take 48 hours or up to a week to cause death, and Roman soldiers knew how to prolong a person’s suffering. They wanted you to be in agony on the cross. But Jesus’ death was abnormally fast. This was because He was literally carrying the weight of the world in every cell of His body. The fact that He was dripping blood while praying to God shows how His body was breaking down before being hung on the cross. He didn’t have to wait days to die, because the internalized stress created irreparable damage long before the nails did.

“At last He stood up again and returned to the disciples, only to find them asleep, exhausted from grief.” Luke‬ ‭22‬:‭45‬ ‭NLT‬‬ If you’ve ever had the sacred torn from your life, you know exactly how exhausting grief can be. There are no words to describe the overwhelming weight from the loss and confusion. I’ve always wondered why the disciples couldn’t stay awake. This makes so much sense now!
